Thanks for all of your kind wishes for Lexie's speedy recovery after the black bear attack. We hope to have pictures of her after the attack available here soon.
Lexie is continuing to improve after some setbacks with infection. We had to have the drains put in again but hopefully they will be removed soon. She is enjoying being back as a regular part of the herd. Lexie is welcoming visitors so if you are in the area give us a call.
Lexie is feeling much better today. Our vet came this afternoon and removed the drains. Right now there is no sign of infection. The "alpaca polio" is much better and we have decreased the frequency of the thiamine shots. Lexie got to spend some time outside today with some herd mates. She is still weak but is eating well and is much happier now that she is able to spend some time with the other alpacas.
Lexie is now also dealing with "alpaca polio", a thiamine deficiency, in which she started going blind and physically unstable, despite our best efforts to prevent this from happening. Her temperature continues to be normal and so far there doesn't seem to be infection starting in any of the punctures. Lexie's appetite is getting better each day and she is learning to like "banilla" yogurt since we're out of her favorite strawberry yokids from Stoneyfield Farm.
